Why doesn't Valverde play Denis Suarez

Valverde on possible Denis exit: he has a future at Barca

  • The midfielder didn't even sit on the bench for the Getafe game on Sunday, despite his birthday.
  • Arsenal are keen on Denis but apparently he is not allowed to leave.
  • And now Barca head coach insists that the minor role star is still needed due to a tough schedule.

Denis Suarez's transfer saga continues. The midfielder doesn't get enough match practice at Barca. The most recent incident happened on Sunday against Getafe: the 25-year-old wasn't even in the squad, even though it was his birthday.

Indeed, Denis' situation seems even less fair since he was allegedly being courted by Arsenal. Gunners coach Unai Emery worked with the midfielder at Sevilla FC a few years ago. The Londoners want Denis on loan to fetch, Barcelona won't let the star go in winter, however.

And now the Catalans head coach Ernesto Valverde is breaking his silence over the possible departure of Denis Suarez. He insists the Camp Nou midfielder is still needed. He has called the 25-year-old into the squad for the first leg of the first leg of Copa del Rey against Levante on Thursday evening.

Marca quotes Valverde as follows: "Denis is in a different position than Munir because he can play for us in every game and is always available. The reality is that he was in Getafe with our squad on Sunday and always fighting for his place in the squad. Yes, he has the future."

He adds, "This is a period of the season when there will be a lot of games and we have to rotate, that is known to me and also to the players. Now there could be a few changes in every game as we play in both La Liga and Copa del Rey.All available players have a chance."
